Small business bookkeeping
Small business bookkeeping, without the month-end scramble
Numeris Ledger is small business bookkeeping software that keeps your books current every day: bank transactions import through Plaid and are categorized automatically, receipts are read by OCR, and your profit, estimated taxes and Safe-to-Spend cash update as you go. Basic is $39/month and Plus, which adds a monthly review of your books by our CPA, is $79/month, both after a 7-day free trial.
What small business bookkeeping with Numeris Ledger includes
Automatic import and categorization
Bank transactions sync through Plaid and are sorted into income and expense categories, so recording happens daily instead of in a year-end rush.
Receipts that read themselves
Upload receipts and invoices and document OCR pulls out the details. Basic covers 500 pages a month.
Profit & Loss on demand
A Profit & Loss statement and a monthly dashboard snapshot show what the business actually earned, not just what came into the account.
Tax estimates that stay current
Federal, state and self-employment tax estimates update with every transaction, so quarterly payments are a number you already know.
Monthly CPA quality-control review
On Plus, our CPA checks income categories, expense classification, duplicate or missing transactions and tax-sensitive items, then sends a written notes summary.
Help when you need more
Your first CPA consultation is complimentary, then $100/hour. On any plan, add a $650 cleanup of up to 12 months of books or $350 Schedule C tax preparation.

Tax rules small business owners should know
- If you expect to owe $1,000 or more in federal tax for the year, you generally pay estimated tax in four installments, due around April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15. IRS: Estimated taxes
- Self-employment tax is 15.3% (12.4% Social Security plus 2.9% Medicare) and applies once your net earnings from self-employment reach $400 for the year. IRS: Self-employment tax
- Keep the records that support your income and deductions for at least 3 years from the date you filed the return, or 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. IRS: Recordkeeping
Frequently asked questions
What does small business bookkeeping include?
Small business bookkeeping includes recording income and expenses, keeping receipts, reconciling bank accounts to statements, reviewing a monthly Profit & Loss statement and setting money aside for taxes. Numeris Ledger imports and categorizes transactions automatically, reads receipts with OCR and keeps a real-time tax estimate, so most of that work happens without manual data entry.
How often should a small business do bookkeeping?
Weekly for receipts and categorization, monthly for reconciliation and a Profit & Loss review, and quarterly for estimated taxes. With bank sync, daily recording happens automatically, so the weekly check takes minutes. Leaving it until tax season is what turns bookkeeping into a multi-day cleanup.
Is Numeris Ledger a QuickBooks alternative for small businesses?
Yes, for small businesses that want clean books and tax clarity rather than full accounting features such as inventory management. Numeris Ledger focuses on profit, taxes owed and Safe-to-Spend cash, and the Plus plan adds a monthly review by our CPA. It is faster to set up and does not require accounting knowledge.
What does the monthly CPA review check?
Our CPA reviews your income categories, expense classification, duplicate or missing transactions and tax-sensitive flags each month, then sends a short written notes summary. It is included in the Plus plan. It is accuracy oversight of your books, not tax filing or audit representation.
My small business books are months behind. Can you catch them up?
Yes. The One-Time Bookkeeping Cleanup add-on is $650 and covers up to 12 months of transactions: we reconcile and categorize them so you start fresh. After that, bank sync keeps the books current, so you don't fall behind again.
How long should a small business keep bookkeeping records?
At least 3 years from the date you filed the return, or 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later. Some situations call for longer, so keep anything tied to assets or unusual items until our CPA confirms you can discard it. Numeris Ledger stores uploaded receipts and documents with your books.
Can Numeris Ledger prepare my small business taxes?
Yes, as an add-on. Tax Preparation is $350 for full Schedule C preparation by a licensed CPA using your Numeris Ledger books. Plus also generates a Schedule C summary from your categorized books if you prefer to file yourself or with your own preparer.
Why can't I just use AI to do my accounting?
Because AI on its own can be confidently wrong, and you are still responsible for what goes on your tax return. A general AI chatbot doesn't see your bank transactions, can miss tax rules that changed this year, and can't check its own work. Numeris Ledger uses AI to import and categorize your real transactions and estimate your taxes, and on Plus our CPA reviews your books every month, so mistakes are caught before they reach your return.
